Where to stay in Amalfi Coast
Very often people ask me where to stay in Amalfi Coast. The answer is not that easy, because people may have different tastes, and the Amalfi Coast can be experienced in many ways.
Positano, for example, is such a picturesque little town famous for its pastel houses and its shops. Great colors, great views, good food, nice beaches and a lot of hotels of all categories. It’s a quite expensive location though, so people may prefer to stay in a different town for some days, and spend just a day in Positano. Also, the town is full of uphill little alleys and stairs… quite exercising if you want to take a walk.
From Praiano you can see the best sunsets of the coast. Less expensive than Positano, Praiano could be the right option for a relaxing Holiday. But, like Positano, to stay in Praiano you have to walk uphill roads.
Amalfi is very well connected with all the towns of the coast. Taking a bus you can reach Ravello in 15 minutes, or any other town of the coast. Moreover, all the boats from Salerno provide a stop in Amalfi, so you can reach Positano and Capri by boat. Additionally, Amalfi has also some “night-life”… I mean: you can choose to take a walk by the sea, or spend the evening in a bar, restaurant.
It’s easier to wander around the town, as it has less uphill roads.
If you like to relax, enjoying great views in a quiet town, then you definitely have to choose Ravello. It is the only town of the coast that is not by the sea (it has a beach though).
Maiori and Minori are cheaper compared to the other towns, and have a promenade by the sea, and a larger beach.
Best town to stay in Amalfi Coast
So, what is the best town to stay in Amalfi Coast? Hard to say… Every town will give you a different experience.
You can find luxury five stars hotels in Ravello, Positano and Amalfi. More affordable options are available in every town of the coast. Whatever will be your choice, be sure to see the whole coast.
You can take a public boat, a public bus, a private boat or a private car with driver.
The last option will guarantee a complete experience, as you can have a local driver to take you along the Amalfi Coast and let you decide where to stop to explore, do some shopping, eat in good restaurants.
What is the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast
Again, depends on the purpose of your trip. Most of the hotels are open from April/May to October/November… very few are open all year round. But if you’re looking for an apartment to rent, or a B&B, you can easily find one all year round.
Best time to go to Amalfi Coast
If you want to spend some time at the sea of the Amalfi Coast, sunbathing and swimming, the best time is late spring/summer.
I would suggest to avoid August, as the coast is very crowded, and the beaches full. June and September are warm enough to let you enjoy a nice swim in the sea.
