How to travel to the Amalfi Coast
First of all, you have to consider that there are no ariports on the Amalfi Coast, as well as no train stations (except for Sorrento and Vietri Sul Mare).
There are buses that provide public transportation service along the coast. The company is SITA SUD. You can catch a Sita bus from Sorrento to Amalfi, or from Salerno to Amalfi. This means that you have to reach Sorrento or Salerno first.
Airport for Amalfi Coast
- Napoli Capodichino airport (NAP), is the closest international airport.
- Salerno – Costa d’Amalfi” (QSR), very useful for private flights.
- Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), about 3-4 hours drive by car
- Rome Ciampino Airport (CMP), about 3-4 hours drive by car

Train station for Amalfi Coast
What train station should I use to reach Amalfi Coast?
The only two towns of the peninsula that have a trani station are Sorrento and Vietri Sul Mare. While you can reach Vietri Sul Mare simply switching from a high-speed train to a regional train, to reach Sorrento you need to change the railway from Trenitalia to Circumvesuviana.
Note that Sorrento has no station for the Trenitalia railway. If you want to reach Sorrento by train you have to start your trip from Naples or Pompei.
Rome to Amalfi Coast
The options for you to travel to the Amalfi Coast from Rome are:
- Bus from Rome to Napoli > Bus or Train to Sorrento/Vietri Sul Mare > Bus to your destination on the coast.
- Train from Rome Termini to Napoli Centrale > Bus or Train to Sorrento/Vietri Sul Mare > Bus to your destination on the coast.
- Train from Rome Termini to Salerno > Bus or Train to Vietri Sul mare > Bus to your destination on the coast.
- Private hire with chauffeur, from airport/train station/hotel in Rome to your destination on the coast.
Naples to Amalfi Coast
Depending on your destination on the coast, you have to consider that the bus service on the coast is Sorrento <> Amalfi and Salerno <>Amalfi.
If your destination is: Positano, Praiano, Furore, Conca dei Marini, Amalfi, you should start your bus trip from Sorrento.
If your going to: Vietri Sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Ravello, Amalfi, you should start your bus trip from Salerno/Vietri sul Mare.
That said, the options are:
- Naples > bus/train to Sorrento > bus to Amalfi Coast
- Naples > bus/train to Salerno > bus to Amalfi Coast

Salerno to Amalfi Coast
